we make our own histories opened at Collins Barracks on 28th February, 2024. Join us for a public programme of Artist Talks, public tours, and an 'In Conversation' series, among many other exciting events, until the exhibition's closure at the end of June.

In Conversation
In this short series, National Museum of Ireland Decade of Centenaries artist in residence Anthony Haughey is joined by curators, artists, writers and others, in conversations which explore questions around the role of the artist in the museum and the impacts of artists working within the museum, including on its collections and communities.Dates/Times:

The final In Conversation of the series brings artist in residence Anthony Haughey and Museum Director Lynn Scarff together to reflect on the past three years of Anthony’s residency at the National Museum, and on the impacts of the project on the museum, its collections and communities.
Admission free, no booking required, places allocated on a first-come basis.
Public Tours
Ireland, Then and Now: Irish Symbolism in the Museum's CollectionsTours will explore the role of the Museum and focus on artefacts on display that express Irish identity, such as the Egan Harp, William Smith O’Brien Cup, Great Seal of Ireland etc. The tour will conclude in the we make our own histories exhibition looking at how artist Anthony Haughey’s artworks, co-created with communities across Ireland, reflect Irish culture and identity today, including Dress for Akunma, A Flag for Ireland and the Young People’s Assembly Table.

Conference: we make our own histories - The Artist in the Museum
Tuesday, 21 May: 9am - 4pmThis conference will explore the role of artists in museums, the impacts of artists working in museums and look at how socially engaged art residencies or other types of artist engagement be fostered as a core strand of work of the Museum. The programme for this exciting conference includes US artist Gregory Sholette as keynote speaker, more details including how to reserve a place, to follow.
