Over 1 million visitors (1,001,295) have visited the National Museum of Ireland’s (NMI) 4 sites since the start of this year. Not only is this the 6th consecutive year that the Museum has attracted over 1 million visitors, but it is also the first time this figure has been reached as early as the first week in September and it represents a cumulative increase of 16% on same period last year and is ahead of visitor trends from Fáilte Ireland.

The National Museum of Ireland Decorative Arts and History will run a series of events to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. These events will include film screenings, talks and lectures from July to September. Topics will vary from events at the Somme to the local impact with talks on Ulster communities and 10th Royal Dublin Fusiliers who had been trained at the Royal Barracks Dublin (site of Collins Barracks and the Museum today).
