The "Amsterdam" sleigh was frequently used in the city in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
The ‘Amsterdam’ sleigh was of a type frequently used in the city in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Its shape is similar to a sjee- a light-weight elegant chaise which was set on a two wheeled carriage, driven by one horse.
The curved bow is connected to iron runners and a rounded seat, with a platform behind the seat. It is decorated with a dragon and scrolls in front, painted red, gilt and the body depicts scenes painted with flowers and lovers.
