County Kerry, Cill Rialaig - End view, elevation and plan
County Kerry, Cill Rialaig (N.M.I.Collection - F:2006.12)
The drawing is on woven paper and made with drawing ink and coloured pencil/crayon. Height 509 mm, Width 374mm.
The elevation shows that the exterior of the house is lime washed. The adjoining livestock shed is of rough-hewn stone. The thatch is secured by horizontal rows of rope spread across the roof and secured by a row of pegs. The end view shows a gable window – not typical of houses of this type. A light wooden partition is shown in the plan of the house. The partition was added to create a separate sleeping space. An iron ring is set into the wall by the table. This indicates that this was formerly a byre-dwelling - the animals would have been tied to the ring and shared the living space.
