To celebrate Irish Sign Language Awareness Week, the National Museum of Ireland has a special programme of tours, performances and other events — many of which include Irish Sign Language interpretation. The full programme is listed below and available to download here.

 

 

Wednesday 20th September 2017

Drumming

 

11.30am- Workshop: Drumming Traditions of the World

Students of the Holy Family School for the Deaf participate in a hands-on workshop on drumming traditions of the world with Brian Fleming of Dublin’s Culture Connects.

Duration: 45 minutes

1.00pm -Workshop: Drumming Traditions of the World

Brian Fleming of Dublin’s Culture Connects leads a hands-on energetic workshop in which participants will learn to play traditional rhythms together on congas, djembes, bongos and dun duns. Expect    plenty of laughs, tired arms and red hands! The workshop will finish with a session of 'Tea & Chats’

Ardagh Chalice

1.00pm- Tour: Treasures of the National Museum

Join us for a guided tour of the Treasures of the National Museum including the Tara Brooch and the            Ardagh Chalice.

Guide with sign language interpretator

5.00pm-Screening: Irish War Echo

 A film that recounts the experiences of members of the deaf community during a key period in Ireland’s journey towards independence (1916 – 1922). The film is narrated by members of the deaf community. Irish War Echo was produced with the assistance of Ireland 2016 funding.

No booking required. Places allocated on a first come basis.

Duration: 1 hour

Audience: Ages 14+

6.00pm-Performance: The Holy Family Deaf Choir

Join us for a special performance, in Irish Sign Language, by the Holy Family Deaf Choir, directed by Shirley Higgins and Lorraine Creed. Watching music being signed can transform a person’s experience of how they enjoy it, changing it from just a listening format to a visual representation of the lyrics and music.

No booking required.

Duration: 15 minutes

Audience: All Ages

6.15pm- Tour: The Eileen Gray Exhibition

Join us for a guided Tour of the Eileen Gray Exhibition, which explores one of the most influential designers and architects of the 20th century.
