Strategic Plan

The Strategic Plan articulates in broad terms the vision and pathway for the National Museum of Ireland as an autonomous semi-state institution established under the provisions of the National Cultural Institutions Act, 1997.

It outlines the vision, mission and values of the Museum, and stresses some key aspects of how it will address the challenges and opportunities it will encounter in the years ahead.

2023-2028 Strategic Plan

'Increasing Accessibility, Engaging Community

The Museum has launched a new and ambitious strategic plan to engage new audiences and communities by placing community, climate change and collaboration at the core of its mission over the next five years.

With the National Museum of Ireland approaching its 150th year in 2027, this strategy seeks to promote both continuity and change, recognising the dynamism and volatility of current social, economic, and cultural conditions in Ireland and around the world.

The National Museum of Ireland will be a place of sanctuary and surprise. Through greater accessibility to our collections, we will strengthen how our audiences can engage with their cultural heritage. We will offer unexpected and diverse public programmes and develop opportunities for increased research and collaboration.
