The Hunterston Brooch, Ayrshire, Scotland. 8th century AD
1983:65:28 Replica by an unknown maker. The original is in the National Museums of Scotland, Edinburgh. Although discovered in Ayrshire, Scotland, the form of this brooch is entirely Irish in conception.
1983:65:28 Replica in miniature by William Acheson. It is quite common for replicas of the nineteenth and early twentieth century to differ in size and decoration from the original objects. They also could differ in structure to make them easier to wear. The pin of this Hunterston miniature is fixed to the ring and a modern safety-pin construction placed at the back of the brooch.
