Drawing in the Museum

Samhain Festival

The National Museum of Ireland - Country Life is a great source of inspiration for artists and art students.

We have a huge range of artefacts that provide a rich source for sketching, researching, and examining.

As some artefacts can be easily damaged or defaced by art materials and/or the action of some art techniques, we would ask you to help us minimise the possibility of damage by following these guidelines:

  • Artefacts and cases should not be touched, or used to lean against. In a few galleries an occasional item is clearly marked as a 'handling object'. Ask an attendant if you are unsure. Please use the cloakroom for coats and bags that may hinder your drawing, thus avoid leaving them on or near artefacts.
  • The use of wet materials, spray paints, adhesives and fixatives is prohibited in all galleries. They contain substances that may damage the Museum's collections, and may present a risk to the well-being of other visitors.
  • You are welcome to use personal stereos within the Museum. Please be considerate of other visitors.
  • Stools are available for all visitors to borrow. Please ask at the Reception Desk.

Please note that the Museum does not accept any liability for the loss or damage of personal belongings or equipment.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us before your visit.
