Visitor Facilities

Our knowledgeable staff are on hand to assist you with any questions you may have. You'll find help and assistance, should you need it, at the Reception Desk on the ground floor.


  • Please note there are no visitor parking facilities at the Museum.
  • The nearest public car parks are Dawson and Setanta.
  • Alternatively, there is on-street parking (pay by meter) around Merrion Square which is a 10 minute walk away.
  • There are public blue badge disabled parking spaces available on the east side of Dawson Street, the North and West side of St. Stephen's Green and Merrion Square West.


  • There are cloakroom facilities available at the Reception Desk on the ground floor, at the main entrance.


  • Accessible toilets are located on the ground floor, on the far side of the central rotunda.

Parenting Facilities

  • Baby changing facilities are available within all toilet facilities available throughout the museum
  • Pushchairs/strollers can be left at the Museum entrance at the Museum's discretion as there is limited space. Owners are responsible for pushchairs left unattended. Please contact Reception desk when you arrive to arrange this. 
  • Highchairs are available on request in the Museum Cafe.
  • The Museum Cafe is a breast-feeding friendly location.

Luggage Restrictions

  • Large backpacks, bags or suitcases should be left in the baggage lockers. Please ask at the Reception Desk for assistance when you arrive. 

Lifts and Access to the Galleries

  • All ground floor galleries are accessible, however there is no lift servicing the first floor.


  • The Museum caters for visitors with varying abilities. Please visit the Accessibility section for more details.


  • Mobile stools are available upon request.
  • Wheel chairs are also available at the Reception Desk if required.
  • There is seating located outside the main entrance to the museum.

Lost Property

  • If you are in the Museum, lost property queries can be made at the Reception Desk on the ground floor.

Photography, Filming, & Drawing

  • Hand-held cameras may be used in the galleries however the use of flash, video cameras, tripods and other digital equipment is not permitted.

    Photographs taken in the galleries can only be used for personal use. Commercial use of any kind is not permitted.

Education Resource Room

  • The Education Resource Room has been developed specifically for visitors and users of the Museum to access the collections through hands-on experience, interactive activities and multimedia packages.

Eating & Drinking

  • No food or drink is permitted within the Museum Exhibition Galleries.
  • There is a Cafe in the Museum on the ground floor.


Group Access

  • Guided tours of the collections are available at a small charge. Interpretation and/or touch talks can be arranged for small groups. 
  • To make a booking, please contact the Bookings Office (phone +353 1 6486453 or email The Bookings Office is open Monday - Friday,10am to 2pm. 
  • Please note at least one month's notice is required when requesting a tour and bookings are essential.
  • Groups wishing to make their own arrangements should contact us before arriving at the Museum so we can ensure you are accommodated satisfactorily.

Corporate Events

  • The National Museum of Ireland’s three Dublin sites currently have no available facilities for corporate events.
