Visitor Facilities

Our knowledgeable staff are happy to assist you with any questions you may have. You'll find help and assistance, should you need it, at the Information Desk near the main entrance of the Museum Galleries.


  • There is a large free car park on site, including several designated disabled parking spaces.
  • Car parking at the Museum is free of charge.
  • Disabled passengers may be set down and picked up at the front of the main house.

Information Desks

  • There are two Information desks: one is located inside the reception area of the main House, and the second can be found inside the Museum Galleries entrance on Level A (pictured above).


  • There are limited cloakroom facilities available at the Information Desk in the Museum Galleries.


  • Toilet facilities are located in three locations: in the Museum Galleries on level A (the entrance level, near the Information desk); on level C (near the Education Rooms); and in Turlough Park House near the café and gift shop.
  • There are wheelchair accessible toilets at each of these locations.

Parenting Facilities

  • Baby changing facilities are located in the disabled toilets by the Information desk in the Museum Galleries.
  • It is possible to take pushchairs/strollers around the Museum Galleries as it is fully accessible with lifts and ramps.
  • Highchairs are available on request in the Museum Café.
  • The Museum Café is a breast-feeding friendly location.

Luggage Restrictions

  • Large backpacks, bags or suitcases should be left in the cloakroom for your convenience while visiting the Museum. Please ask at the Information Desk for assistance when you arrive. 

Lifts and Access to the Galleries

  • The Museum Galleries are set out over four floors. There is a wheelchair accessible lift at the back of the main museum galleries on Level A. This lift goes to all of the four floors in the museum galleries.


  • The Museum caters for visitors with varying abilities. Please visit the Accessibility section for more details.


  • There are seating areas available in all of the galleries.
  • Mobile stools are also available upon request.
  • Wheel chairs are also available at the Information Desk if required.
  • There are picnic areas and outdoor seating in a variety of locations around the museum grounds.

Lost Property

  • If you are in the Museum, lost property queries can be made at the Information Desk on the ground floor. 
  • Otherwise, please contact the Museum at +353 94 9031755.

Photography, Filming, & Drawing

  • Hand-held cameras may be used in the galleries however the use of flash, video cameras, tripods and other digital equipment is not permitted.
  • Photographs taken in the galleries can only be used for personal use. Commercial use of any kind is not permitted.

  • Sketching and drawing is always welcome. Find out more about Drawing in the Museum.

Education Resource Rooms

  • There are two Education Resource Rooms in the Museum Galleries. These are resource spaces on Level –2 for the public to further explore and respond to the Museum and the collections.
  • As well as providing activity and research spaces the Education Resource Rooms have books, handling artefacts, computers with interactive multimedia Museum programmes, and limited Internet access.

Eating & Drinking

  • No food or drink is permitted within the Museum Exhibition Galleries.
  • There is a café in Turlough Park House. The café is all on one level and may be accessed from an external courtyard. Alternatively the café is accessible from the gift shop using a lift system or through an entrance on the lower level. There is a range of seating available in the café including outdoor seating in the courtyard in suitable weather.
  • If you would like to bring a picnic, there are several tables and chairs available on the Museum grounds.


Group Access

  • Guided tours of the collections are available at a small charge. Interpretation and/or touch talks can be arranged for small groups please phone +353 94 9031751, use the booking form, or email The Bookings Office is open Monday - Friday,10am to 2pm. 
  • Please note at least one month's notice is required when requesting a tour and bookings are essential.
  • Groups wishing to make their own arrangements should contact us before arriving at the Museum so we can ensure you are accommodated satisfactorily.
