Folding sundial and compass, gilt metal, by J. Baum and Co., Birmingham, 1875. Rectangular gilt dial with rounded edges. Hinge running through middle of dial beneath gnomon, making it possible to fold the instrument. Triangular gnomon, decorated with engraved floral scrolls. Dial decorated with cartouche of floral scrolls. Surrounded by outer band containing the words - Patent Birmingham 1875. Tiny compass set in one side of dial. Back of dial stamped with makers name, J. Baum and Co., Birmingham.
