The development of the National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology site on Kildare Street is central to the overall strategic vision of the Museum. The Museum accepts that there is a need for a full refurbishment of the building and the exhibitions.
The Museum has been working for some time with the Office of Public Works on a development control plan for the site to meet both the Museum’s current needs and its strategic vision for the site as a suitable showcase for Ireland’s world class native archaeological collections and ancient treasures. The Museum envisions the redevelopment focussing on the provision of a strategic exhibition programme and the provision of a much enhanced visitor service, education service and universal access.
There is currently no funding for the project, however the Museum will continue to work with its strategic partners, the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the Office of Public Works, to secure the necessary resources to implement the development plan over the next number of years.
