Capture the Moment
Photographic Exhibition
These prize-winning & commended entries from ICOMOS Ireland’s Amateur Photographic competition (“Capture the Moment”), organised to celebrate “2012 - the International Year of the Rural Landscape”, were on display in the Museum Café in a special temporary exhibition.

Juliette Condon - My back yard
Rosemary Emma Murphy - The Loughcrew stones

Victoria Douglas - The life of a country girl
The competition, which was sponsored by the Heritage Council, invited amateur photographers of all ages, to try to “capture” and explain their ‘moment’ in the wonderful diversity of the Irish countryside.
The judges, Bill Hastings, Éanna ní Lamhna and Michael Starrett were impressed with the high standard of entries. They considered that the winners captured the character of the rural landscape in its many different aspects including the dramatic, the personal and the intriguing. They commented “The blend of our natural and cultural landscapes into something that is peculiarly ‘Irish’ was very evident as was the blurring of our crafts and our artistic impressions in to the particular uses of that landscape”
Almost four hundred entries were received from throughout the country and from abroad including Australia, Holland, India, Russia, U.K. and U.S.A.
It is hoped that this competition and exhibition will help to promote a greater appreciation of the character and beauty of the Irish rural landscape.
