Visitor Facilities

Our knowledgeable staff are on hand to assist you with any questions. You'll find help and assistance, should you need it, at the reception desk on the ground floor at the main entrance.

Parking

  • Please note that, commencing 10th July 2013, the car park in Collins Barracks becomes paid parking, as one of the measures to diversify funding, while keeping free entrance to the galleries.

    Monday - Saturday 7:30 - 18:00 (Gates Closed 18:30)
    Sunday 13:00 - 17:30 (Gates Closed 18:00)
  • There are 7 designated disabled parking spaces.

Cloakroom

  • There are cloakroom facilities available at the reception desk on the ground floor, at the main entrance.

Toilets

  • Accessible toilets are located in the main reception, the ground floor of the Soldiers and Chiefs exhibition, in the Riding School (temporary gallery) and in Brambles Café. 

Parenting Facilities

  • Baby changing facilities are available within all toilet facilities available throughout the museum.
  • It is possible to take pushchairs/strollers around the Museum as it is fully accessible with lifts, ramps, and wide doors.
  • Highchairs are available on request in the Museum café.
  • The Museum café is a breast-feeding friendly location.

Luggage Restrictions

  • Large backpacks, bags or suitcases should be left in the cloakroom for your convenience while visiting the Museum. Please ask at the reception desk for assistance when you arrive. 

Lifts and Access to the Galleries

  • All galleries in Collins Barracks are fully accessible. The site has 4 lifts, located in the main reception area, in the east corner servicing floors one to three of the decorative arts section of the museum. There are two lifts in the Soldiers and Chiefs exhibition.

  • The Museum caters for visitors with varying abilities. Please visit the Accessibility section for more details.

Seating

  • There are seating areas available in the majority of galleries.
  • Mobile stools are available upon request.
  • Wheel chairs are also available at the reception desk if required.

Lost Property

  • If you are in the Museum, lost property queries can be made at the reception desk on the ground floor.

Photography, Filming, & Drawing

  • Hand-held cameras may be used in the galleries however the use of flash, video cameras, tripods and other digital equipment is not permitted. Photographs taken in the galleries can only be used for personal use. Commercial use of any kind is not permitted.

  • Sketching and drawing is always welcome. Find out more about Drawing in the Museum.

Education Resource Room

  • The Education Resource Room has been developed specifically for visitors and users of the Museum to access the collections through hands-on experience, interactive activities and multimedia packages.
  • Please contact the bookings office (phone +353 1 6777444 or email bookings@museum.ie) for more information.The bookings office is open Monday - Friday,10am to 2pm. 

Eating & Drinking

  • No food or drink is permitted within the Museum exhibition galleries.
  • There is a café in the Museum, located on the opposite side of Clarke Square to the main museum reception.
  • If you would like to bring a picnic, there are several tables & chairs for your use under the archways on Clarke Square.

Shopping

Group Access

  • Guided tours of the collections are available at a small charge. Interpretation and/or touch talks can be arranged for small groups please phone +353 1 6777444 or email bookings@museum.ie. The Bookings Office is open Monday - Friday,10am to 2pm. 
  • Please note at least one month's notice is required when requesting a tour and bookings are essential.
  • Groups wishing to make their own arrangements should contact us before arriving at the Museum so we can ensure you are accommodated satisfactorily.

Corporate Events

  • The National Museum of Ireland’s three Dublin sites currently have no available facilities for corporate events.
