There is lots to explore at the Museum
At the weekend and during school holdiays there are activities created to appeal to children and adults, from guided tours to workshops in the Learning Resource Room.
My Museum Family Programme
The My Museum Programme encourages families to interact and explore the collections of the National Museum through hands-on events that promote active learning with the important element of fun.
Events take place every 2-3 weeks, discovering the collections through art, drama or storytelling workshop, or through a demonstration or special guided tour.
Please note that places are limited and operate on a first come, first served basis. The details of all events is in the Calendar of Events.
Family Events & Tours
During themed tours you can see and get answers to questions you might have about some famous artefacts, from the beautiful Broighter Boat to the Ardagh Chalice, from Viking objects discovered during Irish excavations to Bog Bodies.

Explore the Learning Resource Room Drop in Sessions
Why not drop in to the newly renovated Learning Resource Room and discover more about the past?
For each session there is a theme, from Vikings to Medieval life and replica artefacts like Viking amulets, and Knights chain mail can be handled.
There are also books so you can read more about the people in the past and drawings of artefacts to colour in. You can stay for 20 minutes or longer and no booking is required. To see when the room is open check the Calendar of Events.
