This branch of the National Museum of Ireland houses the most wonderful collection of artefacts dating from 7000 BC to the late medieval period. Examples of these include the Ardagh Chalice, the 'Tara' Brooch and the Derrynaflan Hoard.

Special exhibitions include Ór – Ireland’s Gold, a stunning collection of prehistoric gold ornaments, as well as Prehistoric Ireland and Viking Age Ireland.  In Medieval Ireland 1150 - 1550 life in later medieval Ireland is explored through surviving artefacts.  Ancient Egypt and Life and Death in the Roman World show some of the non-Irish collections.
