‘Culture Night’ at the National Museum of Ireland – Friday 24th September

The National Museum of Ireland is pleased to be supporting this year’s Culture Night, organised by Temple Bar Cultural Trust on Friday 24th September 2010.

A full and varied programme will take place at all four National Museum sites during Culture Night, including storytelling by Nuala Hayes and music by harpist Anne Marie O'Farrel in Kildare Street and some special items will be taken out of storage for the evening including rare fossils and unusual creatures in the Natural History museum on Merrion Street.

Do not miss a unique opportunity to see a duel re-enactment in the National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts and History, Collins Barracks.

Dueling re-enactment – ‘That Damned thing call’d Honour!’

A demonstration in dueling with Whiplash Theatre Company.

When: 6.00pm – 6.30pm

Where: Clarke Square, Collins Barracks.

This is also a good opportunity to catch up with the National Museum of Ireland’s collections, including an exhibition devoted to the Irish High Crosses in Collins Barracks, an exhibition bringing us face to face with our ancestors with ‘Kingship & Sacrifice’ in Kildare Street or visit the Cross of Cong, currently on display in Turlough Park.

At Collins Barracks there is a range of fascinating and accessible exhibitions about Ireland's history and stunning displays of decorative arts. Culture Night: Bronze Age Warriors! 5:00-8:30pm

Meet members of the Mogh Roith Living History Group who will demonstrate the kind of weapons, clothes and crafts that were used by Ireland's Bronze Age inhabitants. All ages demonstration.

Culture Night: Themed Tours of the Museum 5:30-8:00pm

Viking warriors, Irish gold, bog bodies! Take a special evening tour of the treasures and mysteries to be found in the National Museum. All ages tour.

No booking required. Places are limited and are allocated on a first come, first served basis. The last tour starts at 8pm.

Culture Night: Irish Myths and Harp Playing 5:30-6:15pm

Come and listen to myths and legends from Ireland's ancient past with storyteller Nuala Hayes and music by harpist Anne Marie O'Farrell. Adults and children 6trs+

Come and meet the Natural History Museum's staff and inspect some special items taken out of storage for the evening including rare fossils and unusual creatures. All ages demonstration.
