The National Museum of Ireland will host a special one-day conference marking the Museum’s 20th anniversary at Collins Barracks, exploring the social impact of museums and the role that they can play in the community.

To coincide with the exhibition, Shadow of Sodeisha, which showcases the work of contemporary Irish and Japanese ceramicists, this one day conference brings together a number of the exhibition’s artists, along with art historians, curators, writers and critics, to explore the origins and impact of the Sodeisha movement.

This Monday, 18th September, Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys TD, will be joined by some of Ireland’s most exciting names from the world of culture; renowned fiddler and lead singer of Altan, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, urban artist Solus, singer-songwriter and Electric Picnic New Artist of the Year, Katie Laffan, and one of the leading actors of his generation, Tom Hickey, as they make final preparations for the biggest night in the Irish cultural calendar. Setting the scene at Dublin’s iconic Natural History Museum (the Dead Zoo) will be 12 members of Chamber Choir Ireland and a unicycling, juggling acrobat from the Dublin Circus Project.
