National Museum of Ireland attracts record number of visitors in first quarter of 2015
Latest figures indicate that the National Museum of Ireland has attracted the highest number of visitors - over 230,000 - to its four public sites to the end of March this year, an increase of 11% on the same period last year. “We expect to welcome over 1 million visitors again this year” commented Raghnall Ó Floinn, Director, adding “we are particularly pleased to note an increase of almost one third in visitors to our Decorative Arts & History site at Collins Barracks, Dublin and at the Museum of Country Life, Turlough Park, Co. Mayo. The success of our site specific theatrical performance Pals – the Irish at Gallipoli and our First World War exhibition Recovered Voices – Stories of the Irish at War 1914-1915 at Collins Barracks are indicative of the increasing public interest in learning about our past in new and innovative ways.”
“We look forward to the summer when our Féile na Tuaithe event takes place at the Museum of Country Life on 23rd and 24th May. This family event, now in its 8th year, celebrates all that’s good about country life and traditions of bygones days. It is an extension of the Museum’s remit to bring the craft dimension of the lives of our recent ancestors to public attention in an enjoyable and family-friendly way. Our exhibition on the Irish couturier, Ib Jorgensen, opens on 28th May at Collins Barracks and also promises to be a success.”
