AFTER ’16 at the National Museum of Ireland
The National Museum of Ireland is pleased to announce the screening of AFTER ’16, nine short films on the theme of the 1916 Rising.
Screenings of AFTER '16 will take place in the AV Lecture Theatre of the Museum of Decorative Arts & History, Collins Barracks every Friday in June and will be free of charge.
AFTER ’16 is a once-off initiative from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board with a view to commemorating, celebrating and ruminating on 1916 and how the events of Easter Sunday and beyond forged the landscape of the century that followed.
The Irish Film Board commissioned filmmakers to give their response to 1916 and the hundred years since. The result is a series of stories, both fact and fiction, which illuminate, surprise and provoke – on the wide subject of 1916 and what it has left in its wake.
These short films are ambitious and imaginative, a mix of contemporary and period, live action and animation, and both English and Irish language.
On Sunday June 12th join a panel of researchers and producers involved in the Irish Film Board's After '16 short films to discuss their research and interpretation methods including use of fiction, puppetry and animation to highlight the events and aftermath of Easter Week 1916. Films discussed as part of the panel discussion will be screened after event. Booking is required for this event.
The Museum's 1916 centenary exhibition 'Proclaiming a Republic: The 1916 Rising' is free and open to visitors throughout 2016.
