Free, fun and educational in 4 locations

Dublin, 27th July 2015

The National Museum of Ireland is one of Ireland’s premier free, fun and educational attractions guaranteed to hold the interest of the whole family. With schools closed and children on their summer holidays, why not visit any of the four sites and experience the history and culture of Ireland? The museums are open from Tuesday to Sunday.

Volkswagen Ireland, a proud partner of the National Museum of Ireland, has created four special videos for each of the three museum locations in Dublin – Decorative Arts & History at Collins Barracks, Archaeology on Kildare Street, and Natural History on Merrion Street and – as well as the Museum of Country Life in Turlough Park House, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. The four beautifully-shot pieces shine a light on the Museum’s amazing collections of Irish heritage, culture and natural history.

Actor and Volkswagen Ambassador Simon Delaney who hosts the videos said: “Filming at the National Museum of Ireland’s four sites was a wonderful experience. These museums are a rich historical resource that Irish people can be extremely proud of, with state of the art displays of precious artefacts that represent Ireland’s history. They give us a window into our collective past. The Museum staff at all four venues couldn’t be more welcoming and helpful.”

Raghnall Ó Floinn, Director of the National Museum said: “The National Museum of Ireland is the country’s premier cultural institution and home to the greatest collections of Irish heritage, culture and natural history in the world. Now that the school holidays have begun, why not take this opportunity to bring the kids and enjoy a day at the National Museum of Ireland and remember, admission to all four sites is free. ”

Volkswagen Ireland announced a three year sponsorship deal with the National Museum of Ireland last year. Through this partnership, the automotive brand has become an official partner to the National Museum.

Last year the museum welcomed over 1 million visitors to its four sites; the Museum of Archaeology, the Museum of Country Life, the Museum of Decorative Arts & History and The Natural History Museum.
