Easter 2016 at the National Museum of Ireland

This Easter commemorate 1916 with a visit to Proclaiming a Republic: The 1916 Rising or join one of the egg-cellent family events at the National Museum of Ireland.

This Easter why not visit Proclaiming a Republic: The 1916 Rising at Collins Barracks, the largest collection of it's kind and commemorate the centenary with one of our tours, workshops or events?

Or get in the spirit of Easter and join an egg-cellent Easter Egg hunt in the grounds of the Museum of Country Life, Turlough Park or the Museum of Decorative Arts & History Museum, Collins Barracks.

On Easter Monday, 28th March we are pleased to announce that all four sites of the National Museum of Ireland will open their doors to mark the 1916 centenary. 

The Museum of Decorative Arts & History Museum, Collins Barrack will also partake in RTÉ's Dublin citywide event 'Reflecting the Rising', held in partnership with Ireland 2016.

Easter Egg Mania at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life
Saturday 26th March 2pm - 4pm

Nature at your Doorstep at the National Museum of Ireland – Natural History
Saturday 26th March 2:15 & 3:30pm
Visit the Irish Room with educator Geraldine Breen and discover all the Irish wildlife on your doorstep - in your gardens, parks and along the coast of Ireland. No booking required. Wheelchair accessible. Audience: Ages 7+

Connacht Textile Crafters: Needle Felting at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life

Join Hilde Reibisch of the Connacht Textile Crafters for a demonstration of Needle Felting. Find out about this fun and dynamic craft and learn what materials and tools you'll need to have a go at home. No booking required. Audience: All ages

Treasures of the National Museum at National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology

Join us for a fascinating look at some of Ireland’s greatest archaeological treasures including the Broighter Hoard, the Tara Brooch and the Ardagh Chalice. No booking required. Meet at Reception. Limited places will be allocated on a first come basis. Wheelchair accessible. Audience: Ages 12+

A Nation's Voice at the National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts & History
Sunday 27th March
Collins Barracks will host A Nation's Voice on Easter Sunday. The 1100-strong choir will perform a major new work which will be broadcast live on RTE.
Entry to the event is by ticket only and is now booked out.
Due to the large numbers involved there will be limited access to the Museum's exhibitions and galleries and the Cafe will be closed. There will be no public parking available onsite on the day.

'Reflecting the Rising' at the National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts & History
Monday 28th March 10am – 6pm
The Museum at Collins Barrack will partake in RTÉ's Dublin citywide event 'Reflecting the Rising', held in partnership with Ireland 2016.
Come listen to fascinating talks, join a guided tour of 'Proclaiming a Republic: The 1916 Rising' with Brenda Malone at 3pm or explore our extensive galleries.
The Royal Dublin Fusiliers Association will also host two walking tours from the Front Arch Assembly at 11:30am and 2.30pm.

Barracks Egg Hunt at the National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts & History
Tuesday 29th March 2.30-4pm
Can you find all the eggs hidden in the museums exhibitions? Follow the trail and test your knowledge to find the Museum's golden egg. Complete the trail to receive an egg-cellent edible reward! Trail available from 2.30-4pm. No booking required. Audience: All Ages

Inspectorium: Fossil Hunters! at the National Museum of Ireland – Natural History

Drop into the Discovery Zone to inspect some stones and bones, guess the mystery fossil and learn about fossil hunters of the past. No booking required. Wheelchair accessible. Audience: All Ages

Gallery Session - People on The Move at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life

Why do people move from their home country? Explore the temporary exhibition 'Migrant Women: Shared Experiences' in this interactive gallery session. Find out about the Irish girls who moved to New York during the late 1800’s and stories of women who have moved to Ireland from other countries in recent times. Toad in the Hole! at the National Museum of Ireland - Natural History

The natterjack toad is Irelands rarest amphibian. Drop into the Discovery Zone to find out more and create your very own toad with arts and crafts. No booking required. Wheelchair accessible. Audience: All Ages

Make your own St. Patrick's Bell Workshop at National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology
Thursday 31st March 2:30 - 3:30pm
Come and join us for our special workshop on St. Patrick where you can learn all about our patron saint and his relics. Take a closer look at St. Patrick’s Bell and Shrine and make your bell own to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Who's fooling who? at the National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts & History

Viking Ireland Family Tour at the National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology
Saturday 2nd April 2:30pm-3:15pm
Did you know that Dublin was founded by the Vikings? Come and explore our Viking Ireland exhibition for a hands on family tour of Viking Dublin with Museum Educator Trisha Ryan. Take a close up look at the homes the Viking were living in, the games that they play and the crafts that they made. No booking required. Spaces allocated on a first come served basis.
