Group History & Aims

The Connacht Textile Crafters are a group of talented craft workers and artists from all over Connacht. The group started in 2003 and were initially called the Connacht Spinners and Weavers, reflecting the crafting interests of the founding members. Since then the group have been meeting on the last Saturday of every second month at the National Museum of Ireland-Country Life.

At the meetings the group share their knowledge and crafting skills, they also showcase their work with each other and members of the public. The group work on a range of domestic crafting methods and use an assortment of materials and in many ways this reflects how traditional crafts have developed creatively to incorporate modern tools, materials, and techniques.
