19th October: Living History, Traveller Life in the 1950’s

Visit a vibrant recreation of Traveller life in the 1950’s displayed in the grounds of the Museum. See a fully restored barrel-top wagon, a traditional tent, a flat cart, a working tinsmith, a storyteller, a campfire and an opportunity to visit the temporary exhibition Travellers Journey.

Hear about Samhain traditions, then join artist Carmel Balfe to make shadow puppets to tell your own spooky Hallowe’en tale.

6th November: Folklore & the Science of Flu

In conjunction with The Enemy Within: The Spanish Flu exhibition, join curator Noel Campbell to hear about some of the strange folk cures and customs used at that time, then join educator Catherine McGuinness to look at bacteria, bugs and the creatures that carry diseases.

Houston, we have lift off! This exciting and challenging workshop simulates a realistic launch experience. Find out about the history and science of rockets, then design, build and launch a water rocket in this interactive learning experience.

The Space Workshop allows students to explore the universe by taking a tour of space & looking at what would happen if the sun was half its size or if the moon didn't exist. This exciting workshop will explore the scale of the universe and allow for a discussion on how amazing it is that humans exist in this harsh universe.

22nd & 23rd November: Deadly Moons with Deirdre Kelleghan

Deadly Moons is an award winning drawing workshop, combining science and art together. During the workshop we learn about our own moon, moon terminology, busy moons, volcanic moons and Galilean moons. Have fun with moons and create your choices on black paper with soft pastels in vivid colours.

29th November: Workshop: Beady Pockets

Visit the Traveller’s Journey exhibition to hear stories about beady pockets with Bridie Mongan. These highly decorated pouches were worn by women in the Travelling Community around the waist, like an apron to hold their most treasured possessions. Each told their own story. Afterwards join artist Stephanie Troy to make a representation of your own beady pocket to take home.

Be inspired by Christmas’s long ago to design and make your own straw Christmas cards and decorations, including stars, angels and more in this creative workshop with Melanie Lorien.
