Adults tour at the Natural History

We have tours, gallery talks and seminars about wide range of topics. For example, you could:

  • Handle a meteorite from space
  • Read a book on elephants in the Reading Area
  • Find out the name of that butterfly in your garden by looking at our insect collection
  • Hear an expert explain the threats to Irish wildlife on a Gallery Talk
  • Sketch a skeleton of a Giant Irish Deer
  • Come to a conference to deepen your knowledge about natural history

Events change monthly. For more details of this month’s events, see our Calendar of Events.

Group Visits

Adult groups such as active retirement groups or special interest groups are welcome to explore by themselves or to book an introductory tour. All groups intending to visit must contact us in advance.

Gallery Talks

Every month you can meet an expert at a Gallery Talk and deepen your knowledge of the world of natural history. These 30-minute strolls around the galleries are based on topics inspired by the animals and fossils on display.

Attendance is free, no booking is required and talks take place once a month at noon. Information on this month’s talk is in Calendar of Events.

Previous talks include:

Dublin's Two Zoos by Catherine de Courcy, author of The History of Dublin Zoo

Minerals for Life by Dr. Matthew Parkes, geological curator in the National Museum of Ireland

Conserving Biodiversity and the Importance of Museums by Rob Gandola, rainforest ecologist

Irish Birds in the Natural History Museum by Niall Hatch, Birdwatch Ireland
