New neighbours: the settlement evidence for interactions between the Anglo-Normans and the Gaelic-Irish in the later medieval period
25/09/2019 - 25/09/2019 1.00-1.45pm
When the Anglo-Normans arrived in Ireland in the later twelfth century, they arrived to a landscape already busy with people and settlements. The old adage tells us that the Anglo-Normans became ‘more Irish than the Irish themselves’ but these new neighbours brought with them new settlement types and new ways of managing the landscape. The archaeological evidence for the interactions between the arriving Anglo-Norman and the native population will be discussed in this presentation by Dr Linda Shine of the Discovery Programme. Booking required, please email educationarch@museum.ie or call 01 6486 334. Located in Kildare Room, ground floor. Wheelchair accessible.
