Saturday 26 October to Sunday 3 November 2024, Suitable for families
Scarecrow Jack Hunt
Admission free | No booking required
Go on a Halloween adventure through the grounds of Turlough Park this Midterm to see if you can find Scarecrow Jack hiding in the woods.
Pick up a map at Museum Reception to take our spooky scarecrow trail inspired by the Irish folk legend - Jack of the Lantern. Jack was a character so mean and stingy that he was barred from heaven and then shut out of hell as well! He now wanders the night for all time with only a lantern made out of a carved turnip to light his way.
Jack’s lantern - known as a Jack-o'-Lantern - went on to inspire the practice of carving turnips and potatoes in Irish households as a part of the traditional Halloween festival. Today, pumpkins have largely replaced the turnip in the modern day celebrations but we still prefer turnips here at Turlough Park!
This Midterm, bring all of the family to the Museum to pick your free map and find Scarecrow Jack in the woods. When you find all of the scarecrows, bring your finished trail to Museum Reception to enter a free draw for a spooktacular Halloween hamper.
This is a free, self-guided activity, suitable for families. Available during Museum opening hours from Saturday, 26 October, to Sunday, 3 November 2024.
