Curious About Conservation? - Science Week 2021

Nineteenth century pocket globe and its associated container (DW:1909.1497)

For Science Week 2021, we are joined by Museum Conservators Hannah Power and Ellen McKeever who will discuss their important work in the Conservation Department in the National Museum of Ireland.

Hannah Power's area of expertise is applied arts (social history and decorative arts) conservation. Ellen McKeever's area of expertise is Paper-based collections conservation. Hannah and Ellen recently undertook extensive work on the conversation of two Museum objects which featured in the past exhibition, InForm. These objects include a decorative straw marquetry box and a nineteenth century pocket globe and its associated container. Hannah and Ellen will share their insights on the importance of conservation within a Museum context, including why they choose a career in Conservation.
