InForm Exhibition Introductory Tour

Seeing, Pinhole camera Stoneware, glaze, glass, foam, tin, copper Discs by Antonio Julio López Castro; Camera, London, England, late 19th century NMIDM:1994.127

Explore the new exhibition, InForm in this pre-recorded tour. Led by InForm curator Dr. Edith Andrees, graduate students and tutors and other key member of the exhibition team.

InForm brings together the superb designs of twenty-two goldsmiths and ceramicists who trained at the Skills & Design courses run by the Design & Crafts Council Ireland. The pre-recorded tour will introduce you to the newly created jewellery and ceramic pieces that are paired with historical objects from the National Museum of Ireland’s collections, which informed and inspired them. At its heart, this exhibition explores making as an expression of culture and tradition. It highlights the affinities between makers across the millennia and across continents.

InForm displays 42 ceramic objects and 52 pieces of jewellery alongside 23 objects from the National Museum of Ireland’s collections. Museum objects on display in the exhibition include Indian, Japanese, Chinese and Persian decorative arts objects, a model screen made by renowned Irish architect and designer Eileen Gray, an ancient Roman glass vessel, as well as Irish Folklife objects and scientific instruments, among them a 19th century pocket globe.
