Facilities at the National Museum of Ireland-Country Life

Learning Resources

  • You can enjoy the Museum without a tour or activity but we DO need to know you're coming! Contact us and we will help you organise your trip.
  • There are two Education Rooms on level C. These can be pre-booked for you to use with your class.

Activity Room

  • This is where workshops take place. Here you find worksheets, clipboards, paper, crayons and pencils.

Resource Room

  • Explore items from the handling collection and access our website and other learning-based sites on our computers.

Get Hands-On

  • Get hands-on with our Handling collection, a range of objects from everyday life long ago. At the Handling Table you can check out the hen's nest, lobster pot and much more. On level A you can try on children's clothes and transport yourself back in time

Activity Carts

  • Everything you will need for exploration and discovery within the Museum: clipboards, pencils, crayons and activity sheets. Help yourself at the Activity Carts on Levels A and C.


The Museum buildings are fully wheelchair accessible with:

  • Wheelchairs available at Reception
  • Disabled toilets
  • Lift to all floors

For groups with hearing difficulties and visual impairments we can provide:

  • FM Tour Guide System
  • Large print version of the general tour
  • Handling objects


We have cloakroom facilities. Children should bring as little baggage as possible.
Purses and valuables should be kept on the person during the visit.

A selection of meal deals for €4 and €5 per student are available, including a vegetarian option.

Lunch Room

There is no lunch room at the Museum. However there is a marquee and picnic benches that can be used during good weather
