Christmas Eve Tradition

Throwing a punch at the pudding

I remember Christmas Eve sitting in front of the fire with my grandmother mixing all the ingredients of her famous Christmas pudding.  Then, all the family were invited to stir the pudding and make a wish, before it was boiled in a muslin cloth and hung up on a hook in the scullery, where my brother and I would throw a punch at the pudding as we passed it, to the dismay and indignation of my grandmother!
