Koi Table (2011, 40cm x 90cm x 90cm) by Zelouf+Bell 

Bog oak inlaid with natural, bleached and dyed woods, with a hand rubbed high gloss lacquer finish. Inspired by the work of designer Eileen Gray and her Koi table and rug, which was illustrated in Vogue 1916, Zelouf and Bell have produced a series of designs inspired by the Irish architect and designer. Twenty coats of hand rubbed high gloss lacquer lend a reflective watery quality to the surface. The table forms part of the series Back to Black – a suite of furniture in wenge, walnut, macassar ebony with marquetry in natural and dyed woods. The theme of the collection explores contemporary lacquer.
