Site of death, Ballykinlar Internment Camp, 1920

Site of death, Ballykinlar Internment Camp, 1920

Photograph of a view in Ballykinlar Internment Camp, showing the exterior of the hut where Joseph Tormey and Patrick Sloane were shot by a camp guard on 17 January 1921. The places of their deaths are marked with two wooden crosses. The photographer is not confirmed, but is possibly one of a set taken by an internee, Frank McKay, who smuggled a camera into the camp without the knowledge of the British authorities. This was arranged by Joe McGrath, who also had a typewriter smuggled in at the same time.
