ESB demonstrators, late 1950s and 1960s

Female electrical demonstrators played an important role in demystifying electricity and electrical appliances for rural women.

The ESB demonstrators worked with local women throughout the country. They visited women who had recently purchased large appliances, demonstrating how they worked, often working with the woman of the house to bake a batch of scones in a new oven to show what it could do. They also ran public cooking and washing demonstrations throughout the country and at events and shows, such as the RDS Spring Show, RDS Horse Show and the Cork Agricultural Show.
