Cruinniú na nÓg Drop-In Workshop: Manuscript Makers: St. Gallen Manuscript Handling Workshop
Free Admission
To mark the opening of Words on the Wave: Ireland and St. Gallen in Early Medieval Europe and the loan of manuscripts from the Abbey of St Gall, Switzerland, come to the Learning Resource Room and find out about the creation of manuscripts in Early Medieval Ireland on this year's Celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg.
During this hands-on workshop, discover the raw materials once used to create inks and pigments that were then used to write and decorate manuscripts over 1,200 years ago. Take a look at replica objects, including vellum, wax tables and quills, to see how people in the past learned how to write and create manuscripts. Enjoy some relaxing colouring activities, read through our many books about archaeology, and make sure to explore the Museum's galleries afterwards.
If you would like to find out more about Early Medieval Ireland check out The Treasury exhibition and the Glendalough; Power, Prayer and Pilgrimage exhibition, or our range of resources for at home or in the classroom in our Museum at Home section.
No booking required. Located in the Learning Resource Room, First Floor. Not wheelchair accessible. This workshop is for families.
