'The Touchstones' artist-led tour and storytelling event

Admission free | Booking required

Join Mayo County Council Arts Service, artist James Winnett and storyteller Fiona Dowling for a special guided tour of The Touchstones - a new public art commission in County Mayo.

This engaging, free event takes place from 10.30am to 1pm on Saturday, 25 October 2025.

The Touchstones is a series of 10 intricately carved stones by visual artist James Winnett, located across sites in Turlough, Breaffy, Islandeady and Raheens Woods.

The carvings weave a tale through the landscape, drawing on the folklore, social memory and ecological story of the places in which they stand.

On the artist-led tour and storytelling event, James will provide insights into the research and creative process behind the project while Fiona Dowling will bring the stones to life through the stories that have inspired some of the carvings.

The event will begin at 10.30am on Saturday, 25 October, in the carpark at the Round Tower in Turlough village.

This is a free event coordinated by Mayo County Council Arts Service. Booking is required. For further details, contact Aoife O'Toole, Public Art Coordinator, Mayo County Council on +353 94 90 64376 or email mayoarts@mayococo.ie.
