Who Brings the Light is a body of new work by Breda Mayock, on display now in the Courtyard Gallery.

The exhibition explores and unearths a personal iconography through the interweaving of familial, community and folkloric narratives.

In the paintings, the objects and settings of everyday life exist side by side with memory and abstract thought, dream and aspiration.

Anything can happen in a Breda Mayock painting; scale, colour, place and time, are all upended in order to make visual sense in what is a spiritual ‘otherworld’

The ‘veils’ of paint that Mayock employs seem to mirror the veils that separate us from the other parallel world. We are allowed a glimpse into the mysteries of existence in an often challenging and opaque world.

All the while, in her exploration, Mayock seeks to breathe understanding into lived experience.

This exhibition is on display now in the Courtyard Gallery (next to the café). It continues until June 2024.
