International Museum Day 2024

Free

Clarke Square, Collins Barracks

This International Museum Day, we're making the Museum move with two free drop-in events for families - Animation Station with Paper Panther and Hands-on History: Museum Mechanics.

Bring your drawings to life guided by an expert professional animator!
Inspired by the sporty artefacts on display in GAA: People, Objects & Stories, make your own drawings move by learning to create animation devices known as thaumatropes and phenakistoscopes. Don't know what these are? Come along and see!

This free drop-in activity will take place from 2pm to 4pm in the GAA: People, Objects & Stories exhibition on Level 2 at Collins Barracks.
Join us for an interactive handling session!
Have you ever wondered about the life of objects before they are put on display?

At Hands-on History: Museum Mechanics, you can look at fascinating artefacts from the Museum’s handling collection up close as well as explore some of the paths artefacts take and the questions museum workers ask of them before they're put into the glass case!

This free drop-in handling session will take place from 2pm to 4pm in Reception at Collins Barracks.

Booking is not required for these events. For more information, contact bookings@museum.ie or call 01 648 6453.
