The Ballsbridge Beetle

Free admission

The Ballsbridge Beetle at The National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks
Seventy-five years ago, the first Volkswagen Beetle Type 1 assembled outside of Germany rolled off the assembly line on Shelbourne Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin. This almond green Beetle, later known as the 'Ballsbridge Beetle,' became a symbol of Volkswagen's birth in Ireland.

To commemorate this milestone, the 'Ballsbridge Beetle' which normally resides in the Zeithaus museum at Autostadt GmbH, the headquarters of Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Germany, will be exhibited at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks.

The ‘Ballsbridge Beetle’ is still in its original form, apart from slight modifications such as the addition of indicators, will be on display on the first Saturday of June (7th), July (5th), and August (2nd). Join us in celebrating this significant chapter in Ireland's design history!
