Fun-filled family programme of events at the Museum this Spring Midterm break

Midterm activities at the National Museum of Ireland


The Museum is delighted to present a fun-filled, family friendly programme of events to keep the children entertained this Spring Midterm break.

Take a yoga session with instructor Claire Anne Tobin; find out more about love and courting in Medieval times; discover the animals you will see this spring or explore the history of the Fitzgerald family of Turlough Park.

All events are free. Booking may be required for some. See further details below.


 

Midterm Mindfulness: See the Animal, Be the Animal

February 16th, 12pm , Suitable for families
National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts & History, Collins Barracks, Benburb Street, Dublin 7

This midterm, join Museum Educator Courtney McKee on a Safari in our Silver gallery, and discover all the different animals hidden in the Museum's silver collections. After you’ve seen the animals, learn how to BE the animals with Yoga instructor Claire Anne Tobin for a session of Animal Yoga. Booking is essential for this workshop.as spaces are limited. Drop-In Workshop: Medieval Knights and Ladies

Thursday 16th February, 11am - 12.30pm & 2.30pm - 4pm, Children Age 7-14
National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology, Kildare Street, Dublin 2

In Medieval times a lady would give a knight a ring brooch as a love token to carry into ‘battle’ for good luck. Join us to find out more about love and courting in Medieval times and to make your own love token to bring home. No booking required. Located in the Learning Resource Room, First Floor. Not wheelchair accessible.

Join one of our FREE public tours to find out more about life in Ireland from the Stone Age to Early Medieval Ireland and see some of Ireland's most iconic treasures at the Museum. No booking required, places allocated on a first come first served basis. Meet in the Reception, on the ground floor. Wheelchair accessible. Families with children 8+.

 

Online Activity: Spring into Action Virtual Quiz

It's spring and all of nature is buy - building nests, looking after young or finding food after a long winter's sleep. Follow this online trail with a National Museum of Ireland - Natural History Educator as we explore the museum together usin the 3D Virtual Visit and find out more about the animals you'll see in action this spring. Along the way we will test your knowledge with a short quiz, so grab a pencil and some paper! This activity is suitable for families.

 

Pop Up Chats at the Wonder Cabinet

Drop into the Wonder Cabinet and join a pop up chat this February! Meet an Educator, ask some questions and maybe even get to touch a fossil, fur or skull from the handling collection! This activity is suitable for all ages.

Public Tour of the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life

Every Saturday at 2pm & 3pm throughout the month of February
National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, Turlough Park House, Castlebar, Mayo

Join an experienced Museum guide to journey back in time and marvel at the innovation and endurance of our rural ancestors through the National Folklife Collection. The tours also explore the history of the Fitzgerald family of Turlough Park, the neo Gothic house they built here, and the gardens and parkland.Tours start at reception in the Museum Galleries. No booking required. Places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Suitable for all ages.
