"On behalf of the National Museum of Ireland, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to you all and thank you for your support and engagement in 2023. It has been a dynamic and exhilarating year for our team, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Museum in 2024.

In line with our recently launched Strategic Plan 2023-2028 'Increasing Accessibility, Engaging Community’, we will be launching a major new exhibition, 'Changing Ireland: Stories from the Collection 1900 to present day', in our Decorative Arts and History museum at Collins Barracks at the end of 2024.

We will also be bringing together beautiful objects from across our curatorial divisions under the one roof at the NMI - Country Life, to celebrate one of nature’s most vital (and most vulnerable) species - the bee. 'The Murmur of Bees' exhibition is set to open in our museum at Turlough Park in Co Mayo in early 2024.

We have an action-packed programme of public talks and workshops, which will also include a conference that will explore the role of the artist in museum contexts. This will follow the launch of 'We Make Our Own Histories' - an exhibition curated from the works developed by Anthony Haughey following his artist in residency at the museum.

Throughout 2024, you can stay informed via this newsletter, or connect with us on our social platforms for real-time updates. If you find yourself visiting one of our sites, and would like to hear more about our collections or upcoming programmes, our team are there to provide you with information, and to tell you a story or two about collections in our numerous galleries throughout our four sites.

Wishing you all a lovely Christmas and a peaceful New Year."

- Lynn Scarff, Director, National Museum of Ireland
