No. 9 IRA GHQ grenade dummy, Inchicore, 1920-1921

This dummy grenade is part of a grenade mould which was used in the casting of the No. 9 GHQ pattern grenade, the standard pattern adopted by IRA General Headquarters in Dublin during the War of Independence. This mould was made in the Pattern Shop at the Great Southern and Western Railway Works, now the Inchicore Railway Works, and used in the foundry there during the years 1920-1921. A number of grenade cases and necks were cast there daily. All the parts that make up the complete grenade, with the exception of the Morris tube, were made in the G.S. & W.R. Works by members of the 4^th Battalion, Dublin Brigade.
