Cart-building project 2004

Members of the public and staff of the Museum engaging with the cart building project in 2004

In 2004, the National Museum of Ireland undertook a cart-building project on the grounds of Turlough Park, Castlebar, Co. Mayo and invited skilled craftsmen Paddy Egan and Tom Cunnane to construct a traditional block-wheel cart which can still be seen on the grounds.

The cart was restored in 2023 as part of a collaboration with the Castlebar Mens’ Shed.
