Mayo Genealogy Group

A voluntary group brought together by their keen interest in genealogy. The group enjoys sharing with others the successes and pitfalls of family research and it’s through their collective experience and detective work that they can give other researchers a guiding hand.

Group aims

To assist new and existing family researchers by advising on steps to family history, and guiding them through the resources they can use in the library, on the internet, etc.

To bring together a group of like minded people to share their experiences in researching, and maybe make journeys together for further research.

How to get involved

Mayo Genealogy Group welcome members of the public who are interested in finding out more about the steps involved in researching their family history.

Visit us on the second Saturday of the month at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life from 11.30am to 1pm.

Group history

The group have been meeting at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life since 2012 and have not only helped visitors to the Museum but have also dealt with numerous queries through their Facebook page.

Projects

The group have been involved in a number of projects through the Museum education department, contributing to talks, seminars and projects. Some highlights include their work for the Irish Community Archive Network website at www.ouririshheritage.org and the 101 Mayo People Project.
