PERFORMANCE: Morris dancing in the park

Morris dance group The Ancient Men

The National Museum of Ireland at Turlough Park is delighted to welcome The Ancient Men, a group of travelling Morris dancers from the UK, for an outdoor performance at 1.30pm on Saturday, 2 August.

This folk dancing group gather together each summer to tour a chosen area. This year, they are touring throughout Mayo and Connemara from 28 July to 2 August.

Performances typically last around half an hour and usually take place outside.

The Ancient Men completed their first tour in 1952 and have since made over 100 tours throughout England, Ireland, the United States, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Japan, Italy, and Russia.

This is the group's fifth tour along the Wild Atlantic Way, with successful visits in previous years to Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry.

They will be based in Westport Quay for the Mayo and Connemara tour and will deliver performances in Swinford, Cong, Leenane and Achill Island as well as many other venues.

This is an informal, drop-in event at 1.30pm on Saturday, 2 August. Admission is free. No booking required.
