Ahead of the All-Ireland Football Final, join Museum Educator Diarmuid Bolger for a tour exploring the history of sport in Irish society. From hair hurling balls dating from the 1500s to ladies camogie dresses from the 1960s, this tour focuses on the development and evolution of Ireland's societal and sporting past.
This tour will explore the development of a variety of sports in Ireland, including Gaelic games, soccer, rugby and horse racing. It will also place the evolution of these sports in a wider societal context, such as the concept of domestic and garrison games, social class, nationalism and independence, and gender.

Culture Club is a series of hosted talks, tours and activities that introduce and encourage people to connect with the cultural spaces of the city. This event is part of a series of Culture Club tours and talk held throughout 2025, as a collaboration between the National Museum of Ireland and the Dublin City Council Cultural Company.

About the Facilitator
Diarmuid Bolger is a Museum Educator and Historian specialising in Irish history and sport. Diarmuid is an Assistant Education Officer with the National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks, managing the Museum’s panel of Freelance Tour Guides, as well as coordinating the Post-Primary and adult learning programmes.
