Coming soon in 2026! We’re excited to announce My Nature Journal – a new self-guided resource for post-primary students visiting the Dead Zoo Lab at Collins Barracks.
As part of Science Week 2025 and in partnership with the Midlands Science Festival, we welcomed Transition Year students from St Mary’s Secondary School, Edenderry, to work with us and develop a new resource for exploring the Dead Zoo Lab. With the Museum's science educators and graphic designers they tested and workshopped with us on the creation of this new journal for students to use when exploring the natural history collections. Teams Tarantula, Octopus, Antler and Elephant Egg shared their thoughts and ideas about themes and activities. Their feedback will help us shape an experience that invites students to slow down, look closely, discuss and record what they see. Through observation, sketching, and reflection, My Nature Journal, invites students to explore the natural history collections, make lasting memories, and find creative ways to reconnect with nature and protect it.
Watch this space for the official launch in 2026!
Big thank you to Jackie Gorman and Enda Carroll from the Midlands Science Festival, to our Graphic Designers, Caitlin Quinn and Ciara Mitchell from Vermillion and Mr. Costello and all the students from Transition Year in St Mary's Secondary School, Edenderry that participated in the day.
