A pack of playing cards said to have been used in his cell by Thomas MacDonagh while imprisoned before his execution, 1916

This collection comprises material relating to 1916 and the War of Independence, acquired over the years through donation and purchase.

It contains a number of key documents and manuscripts relating to the Rising, such as the Proclamation of the Republic and Pearse’s surrender order.

It also includes the Irish Republic flag that flew over the GPO in 1916. The collection includes guns, uniforms, manuscripts, prison diaries and personal memorabilia. The collection covers the period up to the end of the Civil War, and incorporates commemorative material produced up to the present day.
