Thomas Hughes is the maker of this chair. He was a third generation cooper and carpenter.This chair was given to the National Museum by Edward R Richards-Orpen who established Grange Furniture Industry at Monksgrange, Co. Wexford, in 1927.

The Industry's furniture was inspired by Irish vernacular furniture as well as the European-wide arts and crafts movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
  
This chair was presented to the Museum by Edwards R. Richards-Orpen in 1931
