Tom Dowd chair

Tom began making these type of chairs from the early 1960s when he started working for Al O’Dea, founder of Corrib Crafts in Tuam, Co. Galway. They used an example of an old chair to design and make the Corrib Craft chairs. Tom set-up his own business, Dowd Furniture, in the 1980s and continued making these type of chairs until his retirement in 2010.
 
This chair was purchased by the National Museum from Tom Dowd in 1995.
